Description

Wang Jingming (1668-1721), also known by his zi (designated name) Dansi and hao (literary names) Weiyan and Weixian, was a native of Jiading (in present-day Shanghai). As the zhuangyuan (first scorer in the imperial examination) in the 52nd year (1713) of the Kangxi reign, he was appointed to the Hanlin Academy. A direct disciple and principal surrogate painter of Wang Yuanqi, Wang Jingming studied Song and Yuan masterpieces through extensive copying, earning the title "Painting Zhuangyuan". He became a leading representative of the early Qing "Four Wangs School". This painting exemplifies Wang Yuanqi's style, exhibiting refined elegance and ease, while exuding literati charm.
