Puru of the Aisin Gioro clan, also known by his zi (courtesy name) Xinyu and his hao (literary names) Xishan Yishi, Xihuang Shangren, Songchao Jushi, etc., was a member of the Qing imperial family. He excelled in calligraphy and painting and was particularly renowned for his Northern School landscapes. In this painting, he claimed to draw inspiration from Wang Meng, Huang Gongwang, and Wu Zhen, but his lively and vigorous brushwork retains much of the Courtly Style of the Southern Song.
