The Shanghai Museum will remain open during the 2026 May Day holiday, from May 1 (Friday) through May 5 (Tuesday), 2026. Detailed visiting information is provided below:
The Shanghai Museum on People's Square
Hours: 9:00 am–5:00 pm (last entry at 4:00 pm, including Monday)
For international visitors, please present a valid original personal ID to make on-site reservation at the Information Kiosk adjacent to the Museum Shop and proceed through security screening at the South Gate for admission.
The Shanghai Museum East
Hours: 10:00 am–6:00 pm (last entry at 5:00 pm, including Tuesday)
The Shanghai Museum East currently welcomes walk-in visitors, and no advance reservation is required for individual guests. Guests may present a valid original personal ID and proceed through security screening at the East Gate on Basement Level 1 (B1) for admission.
The Shanghai Museum on People's Square to Close Temporarily Beginning May 6
In preparation for the upcoming exhibition On Top of the World Tree: Ancient Civilizations of the Americas, the Shanghai Museum on People's Square will close temporarily beginning Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The Museum is scheduled to reopen in July with a renewed presentation.
During this period, the Shanghai Museum East will remain open as usual.
