Archaeology Gallery
Introduction

Shanghai, China's most vibrant international metropolis, is an economic centre and cultural hub. Archaeologists in Shanghai have recovered and reconstructed the 6,000-year-old history of Shanghai that spans from the Neolithic Age to the present day.

Where is the root of Shanghai? How did this city develop into today's Shanghai? What unique cultural characteristics define Shanghai? To answer these questions, we present in this gallery an exhibition showcasing archaeological findings in Shanghai.

These findings are shards of time. They constitute the three chapters – "The Prehistoric State", "The Ancient Port", and "The Prospering Metropolis". Now let's find these shards of time and piece them together to unfold the history of Shanghai.
